So are you wondering where did all that money really go? Check out Air America Radio talk show host Rachel Maddow‘s video equating the US government’s bailout of Wall Street to a candy sugar high.

I don’t know about you, but these last couple of weeks have felt pretty scary. And if your feeling the least bit scared now, just remember under a McCain presidency, his solution for our insolvency is to cut all spending to the bone–including the 138 measly million dollars that the National Endowment for the Arts sprinkles out as financial support for the entire United States of America.

Interestingly, there are about 138 million taxpayers ( as of 2007) in the United States– including many who pay zero income tax, which is estimated to about a third of all tax filers. You can be sure that a lot of artists fall into this category too. This means that the National Endowment for the Arts currently spends about $1.00 a person for an entire year of creativity advancement and arts advocacy. $1.00. That’s it.

But in turn, you and I and the rest of the country, likely will receive an IOU to the United States of America for about $5000.00 each to help advance Wall Streets inability to create positive healthy vibrant assets for the world– exactly the stuff that artists know how to do.

Man, sometimes I have to wonder if this is all a dream. This cannot be the world, as an artist, I live in. Can I have a second life, please? The one I envision? Second Life, the game, was, after all, created by its residents…

But I do believe we, as artists, have an opportunity to create a new game here on this planet right now with a new set of rules, that include an opportunity to create healthy vibrant positive imaginations for Wall Street and in our communities on Main Street. Its going to take a lot of imaginative thinking to get us out of the rut we are in! Our skills are needed more than ever…
